Marmari lies on the northern coast of Kos. It is 8 kms from Kos airport and 2.5 kms from the nearest village of Pyli. A Mediterranean climate leads to dry hot summer days with cooling sea breezes and mild winters with some rain. Average temperatures between May-September hover around 27°C and 24°C for the water. As it is more exposed than some other beaches, it is very popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers.
It is a long white sandy beach with sand dunes. There is a shallow access into the water which extends 50 m from the beach. Crystal clear water reveals a sandy bottom.
The Meltemi thermal winds blow west, northwest and north. Morning winds blow around 2-4 bft and offer ideal conditions for beginners and intermediates. There is little current, so it is easy to get back to shore. In the afternoon, the speed picks up to 4-6 bft and the wind blows sideshore until sunset. The water is flat with a little chop and small waves, but with strong afternoon winds, expect 1.5m or higher towards the end of day. A shorty is sufficient for all the seasons except winter when a full wetsuit is necessary.
Rentals are available at the windsurfing centers on the beach, but bringing your own harness and wetsuit is advisable. The beach is well equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, upscale hotels right on the beach, and apartments and several choices of hotels less than 1 km away. Restaurants and bars are located in the hotels and in the village. As there is a well paved road all the way to the beach, access is easy on the local bus or by car or scooter. There is sufficient parking.
Be careful of swimmers especially in the peak months of June-August.
Baywatch and rescue boats assure safety.
Marmari is a village and a former municipality in Euboea, Greece, in the southeastern end of the island. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Karystos, of which it is a municipal unit. The Greek National Road 44 (Chalkida – Karystos) runs through Marmari. There are ferry routes with the mainland port of Rafina. The mountains dominate the east. Its main economy are businesses and agriculture. Marmari is located SE of Chalkida, E of Rafina and west of Karystos.

Normally the area have N,NE wind direction with average from 15-40 knots depends of the day. Marmari have wind all year with the best period in summer with Meltemi from NE direction. Best months to kite surf is from May till September.
Security advices
Wind force is up to 30 knots most of the time and little bit gusty. Small beach and the wind direction is side shore – side off shore. No local rescue boat assistance so you have to be careful while you kiting. Swimmers in the area during summer months.
Summer warm with around 32°C, water 24°C. No wetsuit necessary but protect your skin with a lycra. During winter a wetsuit is needed. Recommended wind for kitesurfing is wind coming from W, WNW and NW . There is Thermal wind at Kos / Marmari, Greece. Best from June to September. Meltemi wind NW, thermal, starts around noon and stops exactly with sunset. Every day mostly 4.5-6 Bft. 10/12 sqm kite is the most useful. Best time to go is June to August, which is high season, with 80-90% wind. Off-season no regular winds. Wind usually blows from N and NW on the spot. The best moments to come to Kos / Marmari, Greece are June, July, August and September .
Beach and Tide Conditions
Kitesurfing conditions do not depend on Tide on this spot. Kos / Marmari, Greece is a Shallow, Flat, Chop and Small waves spot. The launching/landing area is reported to be of Small size. Long sandy beach. The permitted kite-zone was moved further downwind where the beach is only about 10 m wide. The presence of trees on this small beach makes launching and landing there very tricky. Flat to choppy water, with small waves. You can stand in the water about 50 meters from the beach.
